One lakh students will be able to use free WiFi in 105 government colleges starting from November 8

Students will start getting free WiFi from November 8 on the campuses of 105 government colleges and all government universities in Uttarakhand. The state government has entered into an agreement with Reliance Jio for this. More than one lakh students will benefit from it.

In the latest academic session in government degree colleges, the number of students including UG-PG was one lakh two thousand. Many of these colleges are deprived of internet facilities due to being accessible in the mountains. Colleges in big cities have access to the Internet for office work.

Realizing this problem, the Department of Higher Education has now entered into an agreement with Reliance Jio to provide 4G network to all colleges. Students will get 4G speed internet at a certain distance on the college campus. For this the college management will give the password to the students.

With this, the e-library is also being made completely online. Through the e-library, the department is giving online access to 2 million books in all colleges. The e-library needs to be connected to the national network in the second phase.

State colleges currently have internet, but there was limited free WiFi for students. Now all students will get free facility of Forge WiFi. Arrangements have been made for this in all colleges. The Chief Minister will officially launch the project on November 8. This is the first big effort towards digital learning.
