Workers at SAIL’s various plants, including the Bokaro Steel Plant, will receive a bonus of Rs 16,500 crore this year. The bonus amount will be credited to the account of all the workers by 21st October.
The announcement was made by SAIL chairman Anil Chowdhury at a virtual meeting of the National Joint Steel Committee on Friday night. Representatives of the central union present at the meeting demanded a bonus of more than 17 17,000 from the sales management. After two hours of negotiations, it was finally agreed to pay a bonus of Rs 16,500. During the meeting, several senior leaders of the SEALs as well as union leaders were consulted more than once. At the same time, it was agreed to give a bonus of Rs 14,500 to the trainee employees working in different plants of the sales center as well as the employees of Salem, Bhadravati, Alo, corporate office. It is learned that during the virtual meeting of NGCS on 13th October, the cell chairman announced that he had given a handful of bonuses to the workers and left the meeting. After that, the union leaders opposed the decision of the cell chairman and warned the movement.
Management called a meeting on Friday evening to decide on the bonus in the face of strong opposition from workers. The virtual meeting was attended by G Sanjiva Reddy, Birendra Choubey from INTUC, D Adinarayan from AITUC, Vishwaroop of CITU, Rajendra Singh of HMS, DK Pandey and others. On behalf of the management, SAL Chairman AK Chowdhury, Director Finance Amit Sen, Director Commercial Soma Mandal, ED Personnel KK Singh and other officials were present.
