Muzaffarpur’s identity has been included in Operation Green by the central government. It will benefit litchi farmers with many concessions under the Self-Reliant India project. In addition to litchi from Bihar, bananas, guavas, mangoes, pineapples, okra, eggplants, tomatoes, cucumbers, red peppers, cauliflower, carrots and beans have been included in Operation Green.
Operation Green was launched by the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries to boost production of potatoes, onions and tomatoes. Now the scope of Operation Green has been extended. The government will assist in the production, marketing, stocking and price control of other fruits and vegetables included in Operation Green, such as potatoes, onions and tomatoes.
Bihar’s industrial secretary has written a letter to the GM of the district industrial center following instructions from the food processing industry ministry.
Detailed work will be done under the pilot project for fruits and vegetables included in Operation Green. Under the Swanirvar Bharat Abhiyan, farmers will be provided financial assistance from fruits and vegetables included in Operation Green. Under this, production clusters etc. will be created. According to the prices of the last three years, the average price of fruits and vegetables included in Operation Green will be determined or will be 15 percent lower than last year’s prices. The Center has provided Rs 500 crore under this project.
