Agarkar said in a virtual program that KL Rahul appears to be a part of India’s current plan. He said that but if Dhawan scores runs in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, then he can also stake his claim strongly. This former fast bowler said, ‘It is a very interesting case. You almost feel that Rahul and Rohit have taken the opening slot from him (Dhawan) but if Shikhar keeps on scoring runs, he will keep the pressure on both of them. But he has to score runs.
43-year-old Agarkar said, ‘As a player, you can do the most. I don’t know how much the performance in Sri Lanka will matter in choosing the team for the T20 World Cup, all he can do is put pressure on the players who are ahead of him.
Along with this, Agarkar said that at present, Rahul looks ahead of Dhawan. He has played brilliantly in the white ball format in the past. In such a situation, the Indian team management can give preference to Rahul over Dhawan for this global tournament.
He said that Rohit Sharma is the vice-captain of the team in limited overs, so he is sure to play. For the remaining second place, there is competition between Shikhar and Rahul.
