IPL 2020: Shreyas Iyer clarifies after ‘debating’ statement made by Sourav Ganguly

Ahead of their opening match in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi capital captain Shreyas Iyer made a statement about Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting, which sparked controversy. Now Iyer has given a clarification about his statement on social media. In 2019, Iyer became the captain of Delhi Capitals and the team reached the playoffs. Iyer recently said that he got mentors like Ganguly and Ponting just like God’s grace for him.

Iyer made the statement before the match against Kings XI Punjab. After that, there was a debate on how Ganguly could be an advisor to the Delhi capitals when he took over as BCCI president. “We will also decide to bowl first,” Iyer said. I learned to take responsibility from Ponting and Ganguly. It made my job easier. This was followed by a debate on ‘Interest of Interest’. “My point is that both of them have improved me as a captain,” Iyer said.
