IPL 2020: David Warner becomes first foreign player to make history after Super Over defeat

The IPL on Sunday saw a thrilling clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Neither team was ready to lose and the match ended in a tie, resulting in a super over after the match. Here, Kolkata fast bowler Lucky Fagusan proved his superiority and took two wickets off the first three balls, giving the team just four runs to win. This small goal was easily achieved by Kolkata with the help of batting of Dinesh Karthik and Ein Morgan. As captain, Hyderabad captain David Warner may face defeat in this match, but this time he set a record that no foreign player has ever set.

Hyderabad captain David Warner also played a key role in tying the match. In the match, Warner batted at number four instead of opening. The pair of Johnny Bairstow and Kane Williamson gave the team a strong start and shared a 56-run stand for the first wicket. After that Hyderabad’s innings was broken. Hyderabad were on the verge of defeat in the death over, but Warner did not give up and scored 47 47 off 33 balls with five boundaries. It also has three boundaries drawn in the last over from Andre Russell. Warner completed his five thousand runs in the IPL during this innings. Warner is the first foreign player to achieve this feat and the fourth overall. Earlier, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina also completed 5,000 runs in the IPL.

In this match, young opener Shubhaman Gill, captain Ein Morgan and wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik lost the toss and elected to bat first. Kolkata scored a challenging 163 runs. Hyderabad got off to a good start in reply but then Lucky Ferguson got the spell and took three important runs which enabled Hyderabad to tie the match with 133 runs in the allotted overs. This is the third match of this year’s IPL where the result of the match came in a super over.
