According to reports, the party was earlier entrusting Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat to talk to Sidhu, but it is said that now this task has been given to the new Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. Amidst all this, nearly 24 hours after Sidhu’s resignation, state Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that he held talks with Sidhu and requested him to “talk and resolve the issue”. Addressing the media soon after his second meeting of the state cabinet in Chandigarh, CM Channi said, ‘Whoever is the party president, he is the head of the family. I had called him (Navjot Singh Sidhu) and said that the party is paramount. Earlier in the day, Sidhu broke his silence by questioning the appointments of Director General of Police, Advocate General and “tainted” leaders. Sidhu shared a video post on Twitter and said that he is ready to make any sacrifice but will always stand by his principles.

Meanwhile, several party leaders including Minister Pargat Singh, Amarinder Singh Raja Waring, MLA Inderbir Singh Bolaria and Congress’ Punjab unit working president Pawan Goyal reached his residence in Patiala on Wednesday to meet him. Sharing a four-minute video on Twitter, Sidhu wrote, ‘Will continue to fight the battle of truth till the end.

Sidhu said in the video, ‘My dear Punjabis, the purpose of my 17-year political journey has only been to improve the lives of the people of Punjab, bring change and raise voice on the politics of issues. This has been my ‘dharma’ and my duty. Till date I have no personal enmity with anyone, nor have I fought any personal battle. My fight has been on issues and pro-Punjab agenda, for which I have been raising my voice for a long time.

Sidhu said, ‘My father once told me that whenever there is confusion, one should always follow the path of truth without compromising on moral values.’ Let us tell you that Sidhu was appointed the president of the Punjab unit of the Congress on July 18 amid a tussle with Amarinder Singh. Amarinder Singh had resigned from the chief minister’s post ten days ago.
