He said that I am joining Congress because it is not just a party, it is an idea. It is the oldest and most democratic party in the country, and I am emphasizing on ‘democratic’… Not only me but many people think that the country cannot live without Congress.

Kanhaiya further said that I am joining Congress because I feel that some people in this country are not just people, but they are a thinking. They have not only captured power but are trying to spoil the present and future of this country. I want to join Congress because I feel that if Congress does not survive, the country will not survive.

Kanhaiya Kumar said that the youth have started feeling that if the Congress does not survive, then the country will not survive and in such a situation, he has joined the Congress to strengthen the democracy. At the same time, he said that only Congress can lead the ideological struggle in the country.

Originally from Bihar, Kanhaiya came into limelight after his arrest in JNU for allegedly raising anti-national slogans. Kanhaiya had contested from Begusarai Lok Sabha seat in Bihar as a CPI candidate against Union Minister Giriraj Singh in the last Lok Sabha elections, although he had to face defeat. On the other hand, Jignesh, who belongs to the Dalit community, is an independent MLA from Vadgam assembly constituency of Gujarat.
