The department says that the Poondi and Satyamurthy Sagar reservoirs, which are the main drinking water sources for Chennai, may rise above the danger mark. The department has already asked the Tiruvallur district administration to shift people living near the banks of the Kosathaliyar river, including those living in Manali and Ennore, to a safer place. According to a statement from the department, the storage level of the Poondi dam is 35 feet and the water is expected to touch a height of 34 feet. The water level has already reached 33.95 feet on Sunday and if incessant rains cause further increase in flow, more water will be released in phases. The IMD had predicted heavy rains in Chennai and suburbs including Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur districts for Sunday and Monday.
