Earlier today, the Uttarakhand unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has written a letter to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urging him to cancel the Kanwar Yatra this year in view of the possibility of a third wave of Kovid-19. Drawing the Chief Minister’s attention to the warnings of medical experts about the third wave of the pandemic, in a letter, IMA’s State Secretary Amit Khanna urged him not to approve the proposal for the Kanwara Yatra.

The fortnight-long yatra, starting from the beginning of the month of Shravan (approximately 2 July) and continuing till the first week of August, saw crores of Kanwariyas from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh gather at Haridwar to collect the holy water of the Ganges. Huh.

Last year the trip was canceled due to the first wave of the corona virus. Khanna said on behalf of IMA, ‘We request you not to approve the proposed Kanwar Yatra in July-August, 2021, as according to many experts, the third wave of Kovid epidemic is ready to knock in the country.’ Dhami had said that the final decision would be taken after consultation with other neighboring states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana.
