West Bengal: BJP leader’s car fired at Asansol, allegations against TMC

Krishnendu Mukherjee, a member of the BJP’s West Bengal state committee, alleged on Monday that “Trinamool Congress thugs opened fire on his car in Asansol in West Burdwan district, but the attackers failed to open the car door, which saved his life. He is gone.”

The state ruling party, on the other hand, has denied Mukherjee’s allegations, saying the incident could be due to Mukherjee’s old enmity.

“As I was returning from my home in Kolkata at Hirapur in Asansol on Sunday night, three unidentified persons stopped a car near my house and tried to open the door,” Mukherjee said. Failing to open the door, he fired indiscriminately at the car. I suspect that these people were Trinamool Congress thugs. ‘

“The driver shouted for help and I repeatedly blew the horn to draw the attention of the locals, after which the attackers fled the scene,” he said.

Mukherjee alleged that the Trinamool was behind the attack. He said he had informed senior BJP leaders about the incident. Asansol South MLA Tapas Bandyopadhyay of the Trinamool Congress has dismissed the allegation. He alleged that Mukherjee was accused of extortion, smuggling and murder and that the incident may have been due to his old enmity.

An official of Hirapur police station said that a complaint has been received from Mukherjee and CCTV camera footage is being seen in the area.
