Seven people, including a woman, drowned when a boat hit them in the Khatauli police station area of Rajasthan’s Kota district on Wednesday morning. The boat had several two-wheelers, including about 50 people.
According to police sources, some visitors from Chambal Hibbari village in Khatli were going to the temple of Kamleshwar Mahadev in Bundi district by boat on the river. It is believed that the accident happened due to the imbalance of the boat due to the overweight of the boat.
It is said that Collector SP has reached the spot. Rescue operations are underway and bodies are being recovered with the help of divers. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has expressed grief. The Lok Sabha Secretariat is taking information of the incident from the Kota district office. UDH Minister Shanti Dhariwal has directed the District Collector and SP to expedite the rescue operation.
After the accident, about 30 to 35 people escaped safely with the help of themselves and villagers, and about ten people are reported missing, who are being searched. So far seven bodies have been removed. Expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot directed top officials to search for the missing soon.
It is said that the boat had about 14 bikes that were kept in the boat to cross the river. Upon hearing the news, the people of the area rushed to the river to rescue the villagers. According to sources, the incident took place near Gothla period while going to Kamaleshwar Dham.
The Speaker of the Lok Sabha also contacted the district administration
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla disclosed the incident on the Chambal river and contacted the Lok Sabha Secretariat district administration. SDRF team from Kota has been sent to the spot. The office of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha is in regular touch with the district administration.
