More than half of the account holders under the Prime Minister’s Public Wealth Scheme (PMJDY) are about 55 per cent. Data obtained from information sought under Right to Information (RTI). However, no figures were provided for the accounts of women and men.
The government’s reply to Madhya Pradesh Information Authority worker Chandra Shekhar Gaur said that as on September 920, there were a total of 40.63 crore accounts under PMJDY. Of these, 22.44 crore accounts were for women and 18.19 crore accounts were for men.
According to the Finance Ministry, deposits in the PMJDY account grew by 8.5 per cent to around Rs 1.30 lakh crore at the beginning of September this year. The total deposits in the PMJDY account as on April 1, 2020 were Rs 1,19,680.86 crore, an increase of 8.5 per cent to Rs 1,29,811.06 crore as on September 9, 2020, the data said.
However, the finance ministry said that no separate details of deposits were kept in the accounts of female and male account holders. On the question of zero balance or balance in PMJDY accounts, the finance ministry said that as on September 9, 2020, there was no money in 3.0.01 crore accounts. As of October 7, 2020, according to PJDY, the total number of account holders is 40.98 crore. The amount deposited in this account is Rs. 1,30,360.53 crore. The Prime Minister’s Jan-Dhan Yojana was launched in August 2014 under the National Financial Inclusion Mission.
