The central government is going to implement a new law for two-wheeler drivers by ensuring only wearing branded helmets and movement and sale. If you wear a local helmet, you will be fined one thousand rupees. Apart from this, a fine of Tk 2 lakh and jail will be provided for the production of local helmets. Every day 28 bikers without helmets die due to local helmets or in road accidents.
For the first time, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has included it in the Bureau of Indian Standards (BSI) list for providing safe helmets to bikers. In a circular issued on July 30, the ministry sought objections and suggestions from stakeholders. The new rules will take effect after 30 days. Under this, manufacturers will be required to obtain a helmet certificate from BSI (Quality Control) before selling in the market. In this, the enforcement departments of the state governments have the power to investigate the local helmet sales and production phases.
New standard helmet weight loss
Experts say that if there is no helmet or low quality helmet (local helmet), one thousand rupees will come. In the new standard, the weight of the helmet has been increased from one and a half kg to one kg 200 g. Rajiv Kapoor, president of the Two Wheeler Helmet Manufacturers Association, told Hindustan that the inclusion of helmets in the BIS list could save a two-wheeler driver in a road accident. According to a survey conducted in 2016, 26 bikers die in road accidents every day in the country without local helmets or helmets.
BIS has been fined Rs 2 lakh for manufacturing helmets
The manufacture, stock and sale of BIS helmets are now considered a crime. If this is done, the company will be fined and punished for two lakh rupees. Local helmets will no longer be exported. Transport expert Anil Chikara says people do not know the difference between helmets (engineer-staff) and industrial helmets worn in construction sites. The basket helmet does not save the life of the biker in a road accident. With the introduction of BSI, customers will be able to know the batch, brand, production date, etc. of the helmet.
