Al Qaeda leader Omar Sheikh accused of not releasing Daniel Pearl’s killers in Pakistan

Al Qaeda leader Ahmed Omar Saeed Saeed al-Sheikh and three of his associates have been released from prison in connection with the abduction and murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl. The court overturned the sentences of the four in the Pearl murder case last month.

On December 24, a two-judge bench of the Sindh High Court directed the security agencies not to detain Sheikh and other accused in any way and declared all Sindh notices related to their detention invalid. . However, the provincial and jail authorities have not released the accused yet.

Lawyers for the four accused in the case filed an application in the Sindh High Court on Thursday, requesting to initiate contempt proceedings against the provincial government and the jail authorities. The court issued notice to both the authorities to be present at the hearing on January 7.

In April, a two-judge bench of the Sindh High Court commuted Sheikh’s death sentence to seven years in prison. The court also acquitted three associates of Sheikh, who were serving life sentences in the case. However, the Singh government refused to release him and kept him in custody to maintain order. His detention has been challenged in the Sindh High Court since the court ordered his release last week.

Pearl, the 38-year-old South Asian bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal, was abducted in Pakistan in 2002 and beheaded. At the time, Pearl was working on a news report on the relationship between the country’s most powerful intelligence agency, ISI, and al-Qaeda. A three-judge bench headed by Justice Mushir Alam is hearing the Sindh government’s appeal against the family of the deceased journalist and Sheikh’s release. America is under pressure on Pakistan, seeking Pearl’s justice.

In 1999, India released three terrorists, including Sheikh, Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar and Mushtaq Ahmed Jargar, in exchange for 150 passengers abducted by Air India Flight 1414. He was assassinated three years after the release. Sheikh was jailed in India for kidnapping foreign tourists.
