Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Saturday that Habibganj railway station, the country’s most modern railway station located in Bhopal, has been renamed as Rani Kamalapati station. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this decision. Chouhan said in a statement that the people of Madhya Pradesh are grateful to the Prime Minister for renaming Habibganj railway station after Bhopal’s Gond Rani Kamalapati as he has brought pride to the tribals by naming the station after Gond Rani. Let us inform that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate this redeveloped railway station with modern facilities like airport on 15 November. The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the Tribal Pride Day convention organized in Bhopal on the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda on November 15. The Madhya Pradesh government on Friday wrote to the Union Home Ministry requesting it to rename the Habibganj railway station, which has been equipped with modern facilities. It was said that this would honor the legacy and bravery of Rani Kamalapati, the widow of the Gond ruler. The Gond community is the largest tribal community in India.
CM Chouhan said, “She was the last Hindu queen of Bhopal. Habibganj railway station has been named Rani Kamalapati after her. It is a matter of great satisfaction and joy for me. Heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for this historic decision. The Chief Minister said that there was a conspiracy to usurp the kingdom of Gond queen Kamalapati by Dost Mohammad Khan. Her son was murdered and when the queen felt that she would no longer be able to protect the kingdom, she took water samadhi to protect her self-respect.
Bhopal BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur on Thursday demanded that Habibganj railway station be named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Rani Kamalapati Railway Station is located in Bhopal city and it comes under West Central Railway zone of railways. A palace situated between the big and small lakes of Bhopal has been named Rani Kamalapati Palace after the Gond queen.
