Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House on Thursday and termed India and the US as natural partners. According to Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, PM Modi met US Vice President Kamala Harris personally for the first time today. They discussed recent global and regional developments. Kovid and vaccination were the main part of their discussion.

History is witness that whenever we both countries have stood by each other, both the countries have considered themselves to be more secure, stronger and prosperous. Vice President Kamala Harris said, India has been an important source of vaccination for other countries. India is going to resume export of vaccines soon, I welcome it. Every day 10 million people are being vaccinated in India, which is a very impressive step.

Prime Minister Modi also invited Vice President Kamala Harris to visit India. Modi told Harris, ‘You are an inspiration to many people in the world.’ In a joint statement with US Vice President Kamala Harris, PM Modi said, I am grateful to you for the warm welcome to me and my delegation. I had a chance to talk to you in detail by telephone a few months back. There was a time when India was suffering a lot from the second wave of Kovid.

This is the first meeting between the two leaders. Earlier, Harris spoke to Modi over the phone during the Kovid-19 crisis in India.

Harris called India a “very important partner” of the US. Also welcomed the announcement of New Delhi, in which India has talked about resuming the export of Kovid-19 vaccine soon.

In April this year, India stopped the export of Kovid vaccines after the second wave of the pandemic hit the country. On Monday, India said it will resume exports of additional vaccines as needed in the fourth quarter of 2021 under the ‘Vaccine Friendship’ program and to meet its commitment to the Covax global campaign.

According to the State Department, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice President Kamala Harris discussed recent global and regional developments. Discussions were held on bilateral partnerships in emerging technologies, health, education and personal relationships.
