APS Deol further said in his statement that in view of the upcoming elections in Punjab, a concerted effort is being made by vested interests of the party for their selfish political gains by politicizing the Constitutional Office of the Advocate General of Punjab to spoil the working of Congress. . On Friday, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu said that he has withdrawn his resignation from the post of the party’s Punjab unit chief, but at the same time announced that till the removal of the new Advocate General of the state. Given that he would not handle the responsibility again. Sidhu had resigned from his post on September 28, triggering a new crisis in the party’s Punjab unit, as the party was preparing for the next assembly elections.

Sidhu had also said that he would take over the post of the party from the day the committee would be constituted for the appointment of the new Director General of Police. He had earlier expressed his objection to the appointment of senior advocate APS Deol as the Advocate General of the state. Sidhu had opposed the appointment of state Advocate General APS Deol, considered Channi’s choice, and Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, Director General of Police. He had earlier indicated that these two appointments were part of the reason for his quitting.

Sahota headed the SIT set up by the previous SAD-BJP government in 2015 to probe incidents of sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib. At the same time, as an advocate, Deol represented former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, who led the state police six years ago when there were sacrilege incidents and police firing on protesters.
