Mumbai Police told the court – Sachin Waje and Parambir Singh had extorted a lot of money from cricket bookies

The crime branch of Mumbai Police had on November 1 detained Waje based on a complaint by a builder and hotelier and made former commissioner Parambir Singh an accused.

Along with this, the police also requested for extension of the custody of Waje. A case of extortion is registered against Waje at Goregaon police station. The police told the court that Waje and wanted accused Parambir Singh extorted a lot of money from the cricket match bettors by showing fear of arresting them. Waje was taken into custody by the Mumbai Police’s crime branch on November 1 based on a complaint filed by builder and hotelier Bimal Agarwal. Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh is an accused in this case. Waje was produced in a court on Saturday as his period of custody had expired. The police sought his custody for further investigation, which was extended by the court to November 13. The police told the court that Waje and wanted accused Parambir Singh extorted a lot of money from the cricket match bettors by showing fear of arresting them. The Crime Branch also said that they also wanted to probe whether Waje took money from anyone in Singh’s name and who helped him other than Singh for the extortion. The crime branch said it wanted to find out from whom the extortion money was taken and to whom it was given. The police said that the crime branch also wants to investigate how many more crimes the accused committed in this way.

In the court, the police said that Waje is close to Parambir Singh and the crime branch wants to interrogate him about Singh. Police said that the voice samples of the complainant (Agarwal) have been sent for forensic examination and the statements of the witnesses have been recorded. The court was told that the mobile phone given by the complainant to Sachin Waje as an extortion has also been confiscated.

Agarwal had alleged that Rs 9 lakh was demanded from him and mobile phones worth Rs 2.92 lakh were demanded from him so that his bars and restaurants were not raided. According to the police, the incident took place between January 2020 and March 2021.
