An official said that on the complaint of local advocate Santosh Dubey, this FIR has been registered at the Muland police station. The lawyer had last month sent a legal notice to Akhtar for making false and derogatory statements against the RSS. Akhtar, 76, made this statement in an interview given to a news channel. In the interview, he had allegedly described the pro-Hindu ideological organization and the Taliban as one.

Advocate Santosh Dubey, in his notice, had claimed that by making such statements, Akhtar committed offenses under sections 499 (defamation) and 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code. The lawyer said, “I had earlier sent a legal notice to Akhtar and asked him to apologize for his statement, but he did not do so. Now an FIR has been registered against him based on my complaint.”

RSS worker Vivek Champanerkar also served notice to Javed Akhtar

A court in Thane in Maharashtra on September 27 issued a show cause notice to Bollywood’s renowned lyricist, poet, screenwriter, Javed Akhtar in a defamation suit filed against him for equating the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with the Taliban. In the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and Joint Civil Judge (Senior Division), RSS worker Vivek Champanerkar has filed a case demanding one rupee from Akhtar as compensation. The court ordered issuance of notice, whose reply was sought by November 12.
