Madras High Court said in the decision of a petition – Tamil is the language of God

The judges of the Madras High Court said that every language spoken by the people is the language of God.

Chennai: Describing Tamil as the ‘language of God’, the Madras High Court has said that consecration in temples across the country should be done through the compositions of Arunagirinathar, Tamil hymns composed by saints like Azhwar and Nayanmar. The High Court bench was hearing a petition seeking a direction to government officials to conduct consecration with the recitation of Tirumuraikal, Tamil Saiva Mantaram and Saint Amaravati Atrangarai Karurar at a temple in the state’s Karur district. A bench of Justices N Kirubakaran and B Pugalendhi said in a recent order that in our country “it has been made to believe that only Sanskrit is the language of God”. The bench said that different countries and religions have different beliefs and places of worship also change according to culture and religion. He said, “The local language is used in those places for works related to God. But in our country the belief was made that only Sanskrit is the language of God and no other language is equal to it. Sanskrit is an ancient language, in which many ancient literatures have been composed, there is no doubt about it. But the belief was made in such a way that God would listen to the prayers of his followers only when they recited the Sanskrit Vedas. The judges said that every language spoken by the people is the language of God. The court was hearing a plea seeking directions to government officials to conduct anointing with recitations of Tirumuraikal, Tamil Saiva Mantaram and Saint Amaravati Atrangarai Karurar at a temple in the state’s Karur district. The judges said that every language spoken by the people is the language of God.
