A militant has been killed in an overnight encounter that started in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday afternoon when terrorists opened fire on a convoy of the Border Security Force.

On Kulgam encounter, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said, “Police, security forces were on alert in view of August 15. BSF was coming, when 2 terrorists fired indiscriminately from a big building. No one was injured on our side. Security forces surrounded the building. The encounter started and the terrorist was killed in the night. A police spokesman said, “Around 3 pm, terrorists opened fire on a BSF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Malpora in Qazigund area in Kulgam district. The Road Opening Party (ROP) of police and security forces also retaliated.”
The spokesman said that police and army teams immediately reached the spot and cordoned off the area. He told, “The force did not give any chance to the terrorists to escape from there. After which the terrorists hid in a nearby big building. From there they fired indiscriminately at the joint team of police and security forces, the forces also retaliated, after which the encounter started.
A CRPF personnel, an army personnel and two civilians were injured in the firing by the terrorists, the spokesman said. All the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
