In Latehar district of Jharkhand, a group of 10 girls from a village had gone to immerse Karam Dali in the pond in the village itself.
Latehar: Seven girls out of a group of 10 girls who went to immerse ‘Dali’ after the tribal festival Karma Pujan in Latehar district of Jharkhand, died due to drowning in a pond on Saturday. Six of these girls belonged to the same family. Latehar Deputy Commissioner told that the incident took place around 12 noon on Saturday at Manandih of Bukru village of Sheragada Panchayat in Balumath block of the district. Imran told that the bodies of all the dead girls have been taken out from the pond and they have been sent to the hospital for postmortem. All the dead girls are between 12 years and 20 years old. The Deputy Commissioner said that after the relief and rescue work on the spot, orders have been given for a magisterial inquiry into the matter and Deputy Deputy Commissioner Surendra Verma will investigate the entire incident. He told that a group of 10 girls of the village had gone to immerse Karam Dali in the pond near the railway line in the village itself. While the immersion of the puja branch made of tree leaves and branches was going on, suddenly two girls went into deep water and started drowning, to save them the other five girls also went and seven girls drowned. Villagers, who reached the spot on the noise of three girls standing on the shore, landed in the pond and pulled out the girls, but by then four girls had died. The Deputy Commissioner said that three girls died while being taken to Balumath Health Center (CHC).
