First Drone Police Unit will be formed in this city of India, approval from government

The Government of Tamil Nadu has approved the formation of a Drone Police Unit for the Greater Chennai Police at a cost of Rs 3.60 crore.

Chennai : The Government of Tamil Nadu has approved the formation of a Drone Police Unit for the Greater Chennai Police at a cost of Rs 3.60 crore.   • Quick Response Special Payload Drone – High Definition Camera with Thermal/Night Vision, Live Video Streaming, Loud Speakers, Flight Range of 2 Km, Flight Time of 30 Minutes and Capable of Lifting 2.5 Kg .
  • A long-range surveillance drone that can perform vertical, 30 km and 100 minutes of continuous flight and overcome a gross weight of 5 kg.
  • The Lifeguard Drone has a heavy lift capability, a 1 km flight range and can fly for 15 minutes continuously.

The government has directed the police to engage with the faculty of Madras Institute of Technology, who have worked on unmanned aerial vehicles in the Department of Aeronautics, for technical specialties.
