Azad had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi urging her to convene an immediate meeting of the Congress Working Committee to discuss matters related to the party. Sibal had also raised questions on the party leadership in the midst of the turmoil in the party’s Punjab unit and said that a meeting of the Congress Working Committee should be called to discuss the situation and organizational elections should be held.

The CWC meeting is going to take place at a time when Sushmita Dev, Jitin Prasada, Luizinho Faleiro and many other leaders have left the Congress and joined other parties in the last few months.
