Congress will not cheat farmers, mandi and MSP system will remain intact: Nadda

New Delhi.

New Delhi. Accusing the Congress of cheating the farmers, the Bharatiya Janata Party made it clear that the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee and the Minimum Support Price (MSP) would protect the ownership of land as well as ensure the safety of farmers in the country’s contract farming system.

BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda told a press conference at the party headquarters here that the MSP was, is and will be a place. Apart from this, the system of Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) will also be effective. This will give farmers the freedom to sell their produce in any profitable market without any hindrance. He further said that even in contract farming system, investors will only deal in agricultural production. The land will remain owned by the farmer. It will have no connection with investors.

Jagat Prakash Nadda while opposing the Essential Commodities Amendment Bill, the Agricultural Production Trade and Trade Promotion and Simplification Bill and the Agreement on Farmer Empowerment and Protection Price Assurance and Agricultural Services said that Congress was committed to take this step in its 2014 manifesto. But he could not win. Now if the Narendra Modi government does this, the Congress will protest.

The BJP president said that today the Congress party is opposing the bill. By opposing this bill, the Congress is actually opposing the empowerment of the farmers and trying to deceive the farmers. This proves that the Congress party has a dual character. His job is always to do politics. Congress knows nothing but politics.

He said that in his first and second terms, the Prime Minister has always planned programs and policies to bring the peasantry, the poor, the working class, the deprived and the exploited to the mainstream through empowerment, service, advancement and empowerment. One lakh crore rupees has been allocated for the expansion of agriculture, simplification of marketing system and value addition in the package of 20 lakh crore rupees of self-reliant India.

Jagat Prakash Nadda said that three bills for farmers have been brought in Parliament. The necessary goods bill was passed by the Lok Sabha yesterday. Similarly, the Agricultural Production Trade and Trade Promotion and Simplification Bill and the Empowerment and Protection of Farmers Price Assurance and Agreement Bill on Agricultural Services will also be discussed. These three bills are far from spectacular. These three bills are extremely important and beneficial in increasing investment in the agricultural sector. They will also be effective in raising the prices of farmers’ produce.

Explaining the questions raised about the MSP system, the BJP president said that the Mandi and MSP system would not be scrapped. Now it will be up to the farmer to sell his produce anywhere. However, the general understanding is that he will sell the product outside the market only when he gets a higher price than the MSP. If the market price is low, he will be able to sell his products at Mandi MSP as before.

Jagat Prakash Nadda also termed the abolition of the limit of cold storage as a possibility of loss to the farmers. He said that farmers would increase the benefits of storage till they get the desired price of their produce and this would only increase the power of negotiation with the farmer.
