Congress panel’s first meeting, Udit Raj proposes to make Rahul Gandhi president

A proposal has been made to make Rahul Gandhi the Congress President.

New Delhi: The Congress Committee on the Movement, chaired by Digvijay Singh and with General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as a member, discussed various issues including fuel price hike and inflation for the first time. Sources said that in the meeting, member Udit Raj proposed the name of Rahul Gandhi for the party president and it was supported by other leaders. This is not the first time that Rahul Gandhi’s name has been proposed for the top post of the party. The committee discussed the planning and implementation of the nationwide agitation on various issues. Other members of the committee, Uttam Kumar Reddy, BK Hariprasad, Manish Chatrath, Ripun Bora, Ragini Nayak and Zubair Khan proposed his name. A Congress leader present in the meeting said that the committee took suggestions from all the members and Digvijay Singh took note of the points. All the members were unanimous that inflation is the main issue of the country which the party should raise, while Priyanka Gandhi gave specific information about the issues of Uttar Pradesh. A leader present in the meeting said, “Everyone gave suggestions and various issues were discussed in detail.” The Congress along with other opposition parties is planning an agitation from September 20 against the hike in fuel prices, inflation and other issues.
