Amarinder said the entire gimmick was created by Navjot Singh Sidhu and his associates, whose sole motive was to grab power by any means.
Captain Amarinder Singh, Punjab, Punjab Congress, Randeep Surjewala, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Punjab Politics: Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday hit back at the Congress for telling baseless lies on the statements of various Congress party leaders regarding the political crisis in the state. Captain Amarinder Singh termed it as a comedy of errors, pointing to conflicting numbers shared by Harish Rawat and Randeep Surjewala on a letter sent by the party’s central leadership purportedly expressing lack of confidence against him. Surjewala had claimed that out of 79 Punjab Congress MLAs, 78 had written to the party leadership demanding the removal of Captain Amarinder. Also Read – Bhupesh Baghel appointed senior observer for UP elections, said – Chhattisgarh can never become Punjab
In fact, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said today, when a Chief Minister loses the confidence of the MLAs, he should resign from his post. 78 out of 79 MLAs had written that the CM should be changed. I have won every election in Punjab since 2017. It was not the people who’d lost trust in me. Entire affair was orchestrated by Navjot Singh Sidhu & his aides. Don’t know why they’re allowing him to dictate terms even now: Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh

Let us tell you that a day earlier, Harish Rawat had said in a press statement that 43 MLAs had written a letter to the high command on this issue. Amarinder quipped, “The entire party seems to have been influenced by Navjot Singh Sidhu’s spirit of comic theatrics. Further they will claim that 117 MLAs wrote them against me!” He said, “This is the situation in the party. They can’t even coordinate their lies properly. Most of its senior leaders are completely disillusioned with the functioning of the party.” Amarinder said the entire gimmick was created by Sidhu and his associates, whose sole motive was to grab power by any means. The legislators were forced to sign the letter under pressure
Captain Amarinder said that the truth of the matter is that the 43 MLAs who had signed that letter were forced to do so under pressure. Captain Amarinder said that after being pushed to a corner over its mismanagement of handling the Punjab crisis, the Congress is now in a state of complete panic, which is evident from the statements of its leaders. The former chief minister said the panic-stricken party was grappling with internal chaos and was working hard to clear the blame for its failures. “It is sad to see the way they are openly resorting to lies to justify their wrongdoings,” he said.
Congress won every election in Punjab under the leadership of the government
The former chief minister said that since 2017, the Congress has won every election in Punjab under the leadership of the government, which was in complete contrast to the claims being made by the party leadership. In the last assembly elections, the party had won an unprecedented 77 seats. In the 2019 by-elections, the Congress had won three out of four seats, even winning from Sukhbir Badal’s stronghold Jalalabad.
The party won eight out of 13 seats despite a massive BJP wave in the country.
Captain Amarinder said that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections too, the party won eight out of 13 seats despite a massive BJP wave in the country and recently in February this year, in seven municipal elections, the Congress won eight out of 350. Won 281 seats (80.28 percent). He said, “The party won 97 in the city council elections of 109 city councils. It is clear from this that the people of Punjab had not lost faith in me, as claimed by Surjewala. The Captain said that the whole matter was planned by some leaders and MLAs at the behest of Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Had it been with Badal, I would not have spent the last 13 years fighting him in courts
Captain Amarinder warned that these lies would cost the party a heavy election price in the state. This is evident from the lies spoken by Harish Rawat on sensitive and emotional issues like Bargadi and the subsequent police firing cases. He said, “If I had my hand with Badal, as he is alleging, I would not have spent the last 13 years fighting him in the courts. Not a single party leader stood with me in this legal battle.”
The entire gimmick of no action in the Kotkapura and Behbalkalan firing cases was made by Sidhu and his associates.
In addition, in the Kotkapura and Behbalkalan firing cases, the senior most police officers, including IGP Premraj Umranagal and SSP Chandrajit Sharma, were arrested within two years of the Congress taking over the reins of the state. In this case, about 12 people including former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and former MLA Mantar Singh Brar have been nominated and presented a chargesheet. In both these cases, seven chargesheets were filed, but some of them were stalled by the High Court. Amarinder said the entire gimmick of no action in these cases was hatched by Sidhu and his associates, whose sole motive was to grab power by any means.
