Burnt dead body of project worker found at IIT Madras campus

The IIT management said that the police is investigating the incident and the institute is cooperating fully with the authorities.

Sources said that the police recovered the burnt body from the hockey stadium of the institute on Thursday night. Some hockey players had informed the police about this. A senior officer said, “It seems to be a case of suicide, however, the police have registered a case of suspicious death. The IIT management said that the police is investigating the incident and the institute is cooperating fully with the authorities. It said in a statement, “A sad and tragic incident happened yesterday at IIT Madras involving a temporary project worker whose body was found, was admitted in April 2021 and was living outside the campus. “We are shocked and saddened and express our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the departed soul,” the statement said.
