Brihaspat Singh, one of the MLAs present in New Delhi, had said on Wednesday that about 16 party MLAs have reached Delhi to meet state in-charge PL Punia ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s proposed visit to Chhattisgarh. It is discussed that since the formation of the Congress government in Chhattisgarh in the year 2018, the relationship between Baghel and Singhdev is not smooth. In June 2021, after Baghel completed two and a half years as chief minister, the camp of Health Minister TS Singhdeo had claimed that the high command had agreed to the chief minister’s post for two and a half years.
After the controversy over the chief minister’s post in the state, the Congress high command had called Baghel and Singhdeo to Delhi in August to resolve the dispute. When Baghel was in Delhi, 54 out of 70 Congress MLAs visited Delhi in his support. After returning from Delhi, Chief Minister Baghel told reporters that party leader Rahul Gandhi has agreed to visit the state on his invitation. Baghel had also said that those who are talking about the post of Chief Minister for two-and-a-half years are trying to promote political instability in the state.
Baghel and Singhdeo have refrained from saying anything on the leadership issue after their meeting with the high command in the national capital, but the tussle between the two factions in the state has not subsided. At the same time, after the new Chief Minister was sworn in in Punjab, there are speculations of change of leadership in the Congress-led Chhattisgarh too.
