Central force personnel will be deployed at each of the 287 polling places in 97 polling stations in Bhawanipur. The charge of security outside the booth will be in the hands of Kolkata Police officials. The official said that police posts have been set up at 38 places in Bhawanipur. He said that a large number of security personnel would be deployed on the day of polling. He said that apart from one additional commissioner of police, four joint commissioners of police, 14 deputy commissioners and as many assistant commissioners have been posted for Bhawanipur by-election.
“We have also opened three additional control rooms. As many as 141 special vehicles have been arranged to transport the EVMs.” Due to intermittent rain in the city, all policemen have been asked to wear raincoats and carry umbrellas.
The Election Commission has also asked the Irrigation Department to be alert in view of the weather here, the official said. “All polling stations have been asked to keep pumps ready to drain the flood waters. We have also asked the Irrigation Department and the Disaster Management Department to be prepared for any kind of emergency due to heavy rains. Assembly elections are also to be held on these seats on Thursday. The counting of votes will be done on October 3.
