The Indian Air Force received the first shipment of four US-built Chinook helicopters on March 26 last year and now India has received the rest of the Chinook helicopters. Thus a total of 15 Chinooks have now joined the Air Force fleet. It may be recalled that in September 2015, India signed a landmark agreement with the American company Boeing, which built the Chinook, to buy 15 CH-474F Chinook helicopters, popular in several major countries, for Rs 6,084 crore. The Chinook was the first American helicopter to lift a lot of weight. It can be flown with armored vehicles and a 155mm howitzer cannon. The helicopter was named Chinook, after the American Chinook. It is the same helicopter through which the US killed Osama bin Laden, a terrorist hiding in Pakistan. In almost all American war-related films it has played one form or another. In addition to the Vietnam and Falklands wars, it has also played a decisive role in Libya, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, and so on.
The CH-47 Chin Chinook is an advanced multi-mission helicopter that will provide the Indian Air Force with a relatively heavy lifting capability of strategic importance, as well as be used in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief surveillance. This versatile helicopter is capable of carrying at a very high speed at an altitude of 20,000 feet and a weight of up to 11 tons. It can be easily used to carry troops, weapons, machines and other types of defense equipment in inaccessible and high altitude areas, so that army personnel deployed in these areas can get weapons and other heavy weapons if needed. Defense components can be easily supplied. Because of these military features, it will also be possible to evacuate victims and extinguish fires during natural disasters. It can also land in small helipads and dense valleys and withstand any kind of weather. It has a seating capacity of 45 soldiers and various war accessories such as small cannons, armored vehicles etc. can be taken down anywhere.
Since the chinook flies at very high speeds, it can operate successfully even in extremely dense mountains. This multi-role, vertical lift platform is capable of flying at a speed of 315 km / h. Typically, Air Force helicopters have a single rotor engine, while the Chinook has two rotor engines, which is considered a completely new concept. It does not have a tail rotor but has two main rotors to carry more luggage. It has three hooks for carrying heavy things. Able to fly and operate at night, this helicopter is effective even in dense fog and mist. It can be operated very efficiently with extreme efficiency. Chinook uses a missile warning system and has three machine gun sets. They are used to deal with any kind of danger on the ground during landing. Although the size of the Chinook is quite large, its speed is extremely fast compared to other helicopters in spite of other sizes, which continues to play an important role even in inaccessible places. Unlike other combat helicopters, it is not used to attack the enemy directly in battle, but is used to transport troops and military equipment to accessible areas. It has also played an important role in this work on the Indo-China border in recent times.
The Chinook was launched in 1957 and enlisted in the US Army in 1962, but over time, these helicopters have undergone many changes, including fully integrated digital cockpit management systems, including rotor blades, advanced flight control systems, and more. It was reduced in weight and the technology was improved so that the armies of about 25 countries around the world, including the United States, Japan, Australia, and the Netherlands, could use it in military operations. The first foreign buyer of this American helicopter was the Netherlands, who bought 1 CH-47FF helicopter in February 200. In 2009, Canada purchased 15 upgraded versions, and in December of the same year, Britain purchased 24 Chinook helicopters. The following year Australia bought a total of 10 Chinooks and in 2016 Singapore signed an agreement for 15 helicopters. It is currently considered one of the fastest helicopters in the United States. It also has features like Common Aviation Architecture Cockpit and Advanced Cockpit Management.
