Pune Land Deal: NCP leader Eknath Khadse appears before ED, accused of political vendetta

Pune Land Deal: While going to the ED office in Mumbai for the ongoing interrogation in connection with the investigation related to the Pune land deal, he said that the case against me is politically motivated.

Pune Land Deal: Appearing before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the second time on Thursday, senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Eknath Khadse has claimed that he and his family were “politically challenged” in the alleged corruption cases against him. Target is being done. On his way to the ED office in Mumbai for further questioning in connection with the Pune land deal probe, he said, “The case against me is politically motivated. We are being targeted politically to defame me and my family members. However, I am cooperating fully with the investigating agencies.”

The ED summoned 68-year-old Khadse a day after it arrested his son-in-law Girish Chaudhary in connection with alleged money laundering and other irregularities in the purchase of a plot of land in 2016.

Khadse said, “The whole of Maharashtra is watching what is happening, as the matter has already been investigated five times. The Anti-Corruption Bureau had given him a clean chit, yet it is being re-investigated.”

The ED has argued that Khadse and Choudhary had bought the state-owned plot at Bhosari near Pune for Rs 3.75 crore as against the prevailing market rate of over Rs 31 crore.

The agency also suspects that Khadse, as the then revenue minister in the BJP-led government, allegedly abused his official position by forcing the officials concerned to transact with his family members. He argued that the source of funds for the deal was not genuine, the money was routed through shell companies.

A former senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Khadse was sent into political solitary confinement for nearly five years following political differences with the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and thereafter joined the NCP in October 2020.

Speaking briefly to the media outside the ED offices, Khadse said, “I have left the BJP and joined the NCP, so I am being harassed like this. It is a political conspiracy.” Meanwhile, after questioning on Wednesday, Chaudhary was produced in a special court, which has remanded him to ED custody. (IANS Hindi)
