The shops will be open 24 hours a day with more than 10 employees

The Karnataka government has allowed all shops and business establishments with 10 or more employees to operate 24 hours a day with certain conditions. This permission is currently granted for three years. The government’s move is aimed at increasing employment and growth. The state’s economy has been badly affected by the Kovid-19 epidemic.

Employers need to make this arrangement

An official circular issued by the Department of Labor states that employers must hire additional staff so that all employees can be given one day off in a week. The department said employers cannot take more than eight hours a day and 48 hours a week from an employee. The extra time should not exceed 10 hours on any day and 50 hours on three consecutive months.

Taking strict action against violation of rules

The department said that if the employees are seen working without overtime after holidays or after normal working hours, disciplinary action will be taken against the employer / manager under the Karnataka Shops and Establishments Act and Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments Rules. The notification said that under the Payment of Act, pay or overtime of employees will be credited to their savings bank account.

Security arrangements will be made for female workers

The notification said that under normal circumstances, female employees will not be allowed to work after 8 pm. If employers obtain written permission from a female employee, women will be allowed to work eight to six nights, but the employer must provide them with full protection.
