ITR filing slows down, returns up to Tk 4.6 crore as on December 31

The speed of ITR filing today is a bit slower than other days due to missing return submission date and being the first day of the new year. On January 1, 2021, people submitted ITR. According to the Income Tax Department, 91420 ITRs were filed till 2pm on Friday. A total of 26993 ITRs were filed in the last one hour. More than Tk 4.84 crore income tax returns have been filed till 31st December of the financial year 2016-17 (assessment year 2020-21).

The government has extended the last date for filing income tax returns (ITRs) for individual income tax payers to January 20, 2021. The deadline was December 31, 2020. Similarly, the last date for filing income tax for companies has been fixed from 31st January to 15th February.

The Income Tax Department tweeted on Friday that 4.8 crore income tax returns have been filed till December 31, 2020-2111. 5.61 crore income tax returns were filed till the comparative period in the previous financial year.
